Welcome to your Mitchell Community College Library orientation! At the end of this video series, you should be able to identify library locations and resources useful to your learning goals, access library resources remotely, and request help from your librarians, as needed. Mitchell Community College has two campus libraries. The J.P. and Mildred Huskins Library, simply referred to as Huskins Library, is located on the Statesville campus. Its physical address is 500 West Broad Street, Statesville, North Carolina. The Mooresville Campus Library is located inside the Brawley building (room 222) at 219 North Academy Street in Mooresville, North Carolina. While this location is smaller than the Huskins Library, many of the library's services can be utilized at either location via intralibrary loan and the college's courier service. Library users may also request items from other community college libraries in North Carolina through our interlibrary loan agreement. This agreement allows students to checkout materials from other NC community colleges free of charge. The items will be sent to your preferred Mitchell library location upon request. Both library locations are staffed by knowledgeable Librarians and Library Services Technicians. Library staff members work to connect users to books, databases, and other research needs through class instruction, one-on-one consultations, and research appointments. The main floor of Huskins Library houses the circulation desk, which also serves as a reference and information desk. The reserve section, which contains mostly items belonging to instructors that are available for student use, is located behind the circulation desk. Materials for professional development, reference books, DVDs, CDs, graphic novels and manga collections are also located on the main floor. There are public computers available to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Printing and copying services are available for a fee. In 2020, Huskins Library secured a grant to support the creation of a Makerspace. This space is furnished with tables, chairs, art supplies, virtual reality headsets, gaming computers, and more. This space can be reserved for individual or group use on the library's website. Most circulating books are located on the upper level, or third floor of Huskins Library. Students, faculty, staff, and community members can check out items free of charge with their library card. Students, your library card is your Mitchell Community College student ID. Faculty, staff, and community members must apply for a library card using a valid photo ID. An academic computer lab is available for students, faculty, or staff to reserve. The Maverick Room is a conference space that also houses some of Mitchell Community College's archives collection with materials dating back to the 1800s. This space can only be reserved by faculty and staff members. The Tutoring and Writing Centers are located on the lower level, or in the basement of Huskins Library. To utilize the Tutoring Centers services, students must complete an application and receive a referral from their instructor. Tutoring and Writing Center services are offered free of charge to students and are provided by appointment and on a drop-in basis. Also, on this level is the Rotary Auditorium. This space includes a large whiteboard and a podium for presentations and classes. In addition to group study rooms, there are public restrooms located on the lower level. The Mooresville Campus Library houses a selection of circulating materials, including books and DVDs; reserve items; reference materials; and public access computers with printing and copying services for a fee. There is a computer lab and a study room available for reservation by students, faculty, and staff. The computer lab is equipped with a virtual reality headset and gaming laptop. Also located in the Brawley building, in room 093 is the Mooresville Campus's Tutoring Center. To utilize the Tutoring Center's services, students must complete an application and receive a referral from their instructor. Tutoring services are offered free of charge to students and are provided by appointment and on a drop-in basis. Mitchell Community College Library offer many services to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons, including electronic resources. The library webpage, found at www.mitchellcc.edu/library contains information about and relevant links to the resources and services offered. The "Chat now!" bubble will direct users to the Ask a Librarian chat feature where users can connect with an NC librarian 24/7. This schedule is subject to change based on holidays, breaks, and exams. From the library's webpage, the Books link will take users to Evergreen, the library's online card catalog system. Here users can search for books, movies, and other circulating materials in the Mitchell Community College Library and throughout other North Carolina community college libraries. By clicking the Databases link from the library's webpage, users can access the A-to-Z list of all the research databases Mitchell Library subscribes to. Databases can be filtered by subject and type to help narrow search results. Lastly, by selecting Research Guides from the library's webpage, users can access the LibGuides platform where research resources have been compiled for specific courses, subjects, and topics. As you continue to acclimate yourself to Mitchell Community College Library, utilize the Library – Mitchell Community College research guide for general library information, forms, research tips, and tutorials. These online resources are available 24/7 for free. Students, faculty, and staff can access these electronic resources from their personal devices and remotely by entering their Mitchell email address and password when prompted. Your library staff is dedicated to helping users navigate research endeavors, cite sources, and overcome information-seeking challenges. For additional information and assistance, reach out to either library via phone or e-mail. If you wish to schedule an appointment with a librarian, from the library's webpage, select either Research Help or Book a Room then Schedule an appointment to get started. We look forward to serving you at both library locations and online. Thanks for watching!
