Welcome to the third session on screenpal training.
00:05 |
This session is on basic screen recording.
00:10 |
Today I will offer you a demonstration of how to do basic recording in screenpal and then show you some of the editing functions.
00:21 |
To start, select the record button on the top right of the screen and a pop up will appear as shown on the screen.
00:29 |
First, decide whether you want to record your screen yourself or both.
00:34 |
In combination, you can adjust the size of your target area by dragging on the rectangle overlaid on the screen.
00:42 |
Choose your microphone if you are speaking in the video and decide whether you want to include the computer audio in the settings.
00:51 |
There are some more advanced options such as setting up hotkeys to speed up your workflow.
00:57 |
There are some other options such as countdown.
01:00 |
Here the pencil icon will reveal a toolbar that has pencil highlight zoom and insert shape capabilities.

Demonstration - Basic Recording
01:08 |
I will go through these now in the demonstration.
01:15 |
Okay, so to begin recording, you select record at the top of the screen.
01:19 |
It will be on the top right for both the web app and the desktop app.
01:23 |
Once you select record, the pop up gives you the different options that you can use, which include having your video on, just recording the screen, or having a combination of both of them.
01:42 |
Currently I'm recording without my video on, but if you want to put your video on, it's possible to do that and you can change the different shapes of the video.
01:50 |
Also, you can also change your background if you want, as indicated on the screen here.
02:05 |
Tools
02:05 |
So let's now move on and take a look at the tool section.
02:11 |
And to do that, you just select the pencil tool, and that will show up a toolbar that has a range of different options you can use while you're recording.
02:22 |
So I'm just going to show you some of them now.
02:25 |
Pencil
02:25 |
First, I'll start with the pencil.
02:28 |
You can choose your pencil color.
02:30 |
I'll select a yellow color.
02:32 |
You can also select the thickness of the pencil, which I've chosen the second thickness, and then just write something on the screen.
02:40 |
Now, it's definitely much better to do this when you have a stylus or a tablet because writing with a mouse doesn't look very neat and tidy.
02:49 |
So in this case, I would recommend using the text overlay instead.
02:53 |
That's using the pencil.
02:56 |
Highlight
02:56 |
Then if we move to the next icon, it is highlight and I can again choose a color and choose a thickness and then just drag along the screen where you'd like to highlight.
03:10 |
I'm highlighting the first video there in a slightly kind of pink color, but you can change it to yellow, which I'll do in the one below here, screenpile series two.
03:26 |
Erase
03:26 |
The next icon includes the erase button, so you can select to erase all or you can choose a size.
03:33 |
I've chosen a size and I'm just going to erase my writing here.
03:39 |
Text
03:39 |
Then you have the text option and with the text option you can choose the text color.
03:45 |
You can choose background color, the size of the font and the type of font you'd like to use.
03:52 |
I'm just going to choose a font size and a font type and then you type whatever it is you want.
04:00 |
You drag onto the screen where you'd like to type and then type in your message.
04:06 |
In this case, I'm going to type hello, welcome.
04:13 |
Shape
04:13 |
Next to that we have what looks like a square icon.
04:18 |
However, when you select on this, you have the capability of choosing from a range of different shapes.
04:23 |
If you have, you have square, you have rounded square, triangle, circle, star and an arrow and a couple of other ones like mathematical equations.
04:33 |
You can choose the color again and you can choose your thickness.
04:38 |
I'm just going to choose to have an arrow and I will select orange.
04:44 |
And let me just draw one on the screen.
04:48 |
So there's my arrow.
04:50 |
And then just to point out a different one, I'll just put in a star under hello, welcome there.
04:59 |
Zoom
04:59 |
So these are all possible during the time that you're recording and you also have the function of zooming in.
05:05 |
If you want to zoom in on a chat on something such as hello, welcome, I select the zoom which is the magnifying glass with a plus on it and then just drag around the area and that will zoom in as it's doing on the screen right now.
05:23 |
If I want to go back, you can revert.
05:27 |
Undo
05:27 |
Then if you want to change some of your selections, some of your drawings, you can select the back arrow and the forward arrow back will undo and then forward will redo.
05:46 |
The Q
05:46 |
There's a final question mark button at the end and when you select on that, there's a range of different options there.
05:52 |
It basically shows you different shortcuts you can use as you record on the screen.
05:57 |
If you prefer not to use a mouse and prefer to use different keys and different shortcuts, once you have finished recording, you can exit the drawing.
06:05 |
Edit
06:05 |
You can select the pause button and then because you want to edit this video, you would select the edit video button.
06:13 |
There are other options to download the file if you'd like to do that, or to upload directly to the web just on the right of the edit button.
06:24 |
However, in this case we would like to edit the video first, so we will select the edit button.
06:30 |
It's the pink button on the screen.
06:38 |
Once you have completed your video, select the edit button to open the editor.
06:44 |
You can adjust the canvas size, add or remove the cursor or music.
06:48 |
You can also generate speech to text captions or add caption files.
06:53 |
Today's demonstration will focus on the editing items in pink seen on the screen.
